How to Pack For a Fall Afternoon on the Water in Boston

October 11, 2021

Boston boat cruise with 9 friends and family members on an electric boat rental.

Some would say that fall is the most beautiful time of the year! New England is known for some of the best fall foliage and “leaf-peeping,” as some may call it. As the leaves are changing, the air tends to be crisper and the vibe more festive, there’s no better time to visit the city!  When heading out on the water in Boston this time of year, it is important to remember a few essentials.

What To Wear

During the fall it is typically cooler on the water and at times the breeze can make it feel even cooler so it’s important to pack a few extra layers! We recommend a sweatshirt and/or a jacket, a blanket, a pair of sunglasses, and a hat. A snuggly turtleneck sweater would not be a bad idea either. Don’t forget to pack cozy socks as well (no shoes on board)!

Our boats have full enclosures so if it is a bit too chilly for your taste, our easy-to-use window flaps are incredibly clear so you won’t miss out on the views! You can block yourself from the wind while the flaps let the sun soak in and keep the inside of the cabin a lot warmer than the outside.

What To Eat

Before going out on your trip, be sure to be prepared with something to snack on to make it the perfect ride. For some gram-worthy shots of your picnic, add on a fall-festive charcuterie board from Bespoke Boards at checkout when booking. The board comes complete with fruit, pastries, meats, cheese, and more. Boards, boats, and Boston – what could be better?

If you’re looking for some lunch or dinner before or after working your way through an incredible charcuterie board, you are in luck – the world is your oyster with food options on the Boston Waterfront! A must-try is State Street Provisions as you head off of the dock. Here, you can order takeout and they have a wide variety of options, such as sandwiches, buttery lobster rolls, and pizzas to share.

What To Drink

With all that delicious food, you might get a bit thirsty. We recommend picking up your favorite beverages for the boat. BRIX Wine Shop is a short walk from the dock and is stocked with nice wines, ciders, craft beers, and seltzers.

For cocktails, try the apple cider mimosa. Get some champagne and apple cider for a fall take on the classic drink. To take it up a notch, pack some caramel and cinnamon-sugar for the rim!

For those who are looking for nonalcoholic options, bring a thermos with some hot and fresh apple cider or hot chocolate to help warm you up on those extra brisk days.

What To See

As we mentioned, New England is one of the most ideal places to be in the fall season. Amidst the scattered foliage along the harbor, you will also see some iconic Boston landmarks, such as the Bunker Hill Monument, the Tobin Bridge, TD Garden, Zakim Bridge, and more. Not to mention, the beautiful scenery of the harbor itself.

Who To Bring?

With accommodation for up to 12 guests on board, there is plenty of room for all of your friends and family. Spend the day with your other half and make it a date, have a family get-together, or maybe even a girls or guys only day!

Coordinating the perfect fall day just got a whole lot easier. Whether you’re spending it with your family or friends, you are now prepared for your day on the water!

Book your fall festive cruise today, and don’t forget to order your fall charcuterie board while you’re at it!
